Michael J. Malik Sr. is a managing
partner in casino development group Gateway Casino Resorts, L.L.C.,
where he is responsible for the routine operations of the company.
This casino development group is working closely with the Shinnecock
Indian Nation of Long Island, New York to secure the Nation's ability
to develop and open a gaming enterprise along with federal, state and
local officials and potential vendors.
Mr. Malik initiated his career in
1980’s as a consultant and developer in Indian gaming in
association with North American Gaming (NAG). Now, he is a successful
entrepreneur in the fields of gaming, sporting and entertainment.
Since 1988, Mr. Malik has become a leader in the casino development
industry, including projects in California, Michigan, and New York.
His active involvement in bringing gaming to multiple communities has
been continuously influencing investment and development
opportunities in the gaming and entertainment industry.
Detroit Casino Development:
Being in association with NAG, Mike
Malik intended the statewide ballot effort to bring casino gaming to
Detroit, Michigan. Teaming with Atwater Entertainment in 1996, NAG’s
effort supported the passage of a Michigan statewide proposal for the
development of three commercial casinos in Detroit, which later
established Detroit as the first urban area in the country to open
commercial casinos. Moving ahead with the passage of the proposal,
Mr. Malik worked with state elected officials to negotiate and
implement the regulatory oversight framework for the Detroit casinos.
Michael
Malik partnered with casino group Detroit
Entertainment that included Marian Ilitch and above 130 local
partners. Detroit Entertainment selected Mandalay Bay Group as casino
operator, and Mike Malik worked with them on the development of the
casino project, which is now called MotorCity Casino. Mr. Malik’s
engagement with MotorCity Casino has helped them to become one of the
best management teams in the country; resulting in an entertainment
industry in Detroit that exceeds $1.3 billion every year, today.
Native American Gaming:
Mike Malik worked to develop a casino
for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians in Manistee in northwest
Michigan. He took care of the site selection and land acquisition,
construction firm selection, management selection, assistance in
obtaining a gaming compact and in establishing casino operations.
Today, the Little River Casino is the third most profitable Indian
owned and operated casino of the 19 located in Michigan.
He was also involved in the development
of two more casinos, a hotel and a golf course for the Bay Mills
Indian Community in Brimley, Michigan. He assisted the Tribe with the
legislative approval process for obtaining the first gaming compact
in Michigan. Now, he is working with the Bay Mills Tribe to develop a
casino in Port Huron, Michigan.
Michael J. Malik Sr. is also the
managing partner in the casino development group BarWest L.L.C., and
he is working with the Los Coyotes Band from San Diego County,
California to construct and operate a world-class casino complex in
Barstow, California.
Other Business Interests:</p><p>
Mike Malik is the owner of MJM
Enterprises and Development and is involved in a spectrum of
development projects, including hunting and fishing preserves, oil
and gas development, financing touring entertainment acts and
developing business expansion projects.
He is also the owner of Paradice Hunt
Club in Gladwin, Michigan, which is a premiere wild game preserve
that features approximately 1000 acres of pristine property and
includes every type of natural habitat Michigan has to offer for
fishing and hunting. Paradice Hunt Club has been rated the #1
whitetail hunt club in the United States and has been featured on
many outdoor television shows. Mike Malik also developed Wildlife
Genetics, a company that develops hunting and outdoor products.
Michael
Malik is also the owner of Grande Pointe
Development, which is currently in the process of developing 348 home
luxury, water front developments on Harsens Island in Clay Township,
Michigan.
At present, Mr. Malik and Ilitch are
also involved in working with other resort island destinations.
Michael Malik has been a real estate developer and a licensed broker
for more than 30 years. As one of the first 26 brokers in Michigan
licensed in securities and exchange real estate, he has developed
many commercial projects. He specializes in resort and casino
development, retail shopping malls, urban development, and industrial
parks.
